- Why does my tent have two grommets?
I just purchased the Alps Mountaineering 2.0 tent and noticed it has two grommets. None of my previous tents had this feature, what is the point? It is the Mystique 2.0. A No, you don't use the grommets for stakes, thats not what they are there for. As you figured out, it's for the tension of the tent and for allowing more or less air flow to come under the fly, depending on the weather and what makes you comfortable. There should be a separate webbing or cord loop for staking. Grommets are not made for staking, If you have to, attach cord to the grommet and stake out the cords.

i am looking for a 2-3 person tent as cheap as i can get it, but i dont want it to be some leaky, tearable, POS wal-mart tent.
